Michael G. Gaffney, of Lake St. Louis, Missouri, has been
named the 2007 National Flight Instructor of the Year by the
Federal Aviation Administration and the General Aviation
Awards executive committee. Gaffney is president of Skyline
Aeronautics at Spirit of St. Louis Airport. He designs
aviation courses specializing in technology integration in
the cockpit that meet the requirements for FAA/Industry
Training Standards (FITS). Gaffney and Skyline Aeronautics,
already nationally recognized for intuitive leadership in
general aviation training and glass cockpit aircraft
training techniques, has written 2 books and a series of
articles for AOPA Flight
Training Magazine pertaining to technically
advanced aircraft. Gaffney also serves as an Adjunct
Professor at Washington University and at St. Louis
University. An aviation safety advocate, he recently became
a member of the new FAA Safety Team (FAAST) program, and he
conducts numerous safety seminars annually. FAA
Administrator Marion Blakey will present the national award
in July at AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The annual GA
Awards is a cooperative effort between the FAA and 12
industry sponsors, including Aircraft Owners and Pilots
Association (AOPA), the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA),
the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA), and Women
in Aviation, International (WIA).

approved Flight Training Company is also home to the
Accelerated Airline Acceptance Program (AAAP) which is a
professional aircrew training academy program partnership
between Trans States Airlines and Flight Safety
International. Candidates in this program receive their
first of two guaranteed airline interviews as soon as they
achieve the Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) designation by
the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Cirrus Aircraft,
and other Technically Advanced Aircraft (TAA) are used
throughout this carefully designed program focused on
promoting professionalism in aviation from the earliest
stages of primary training.

direction of Michael G. Gaffney. He was recently a
designated Cirrus Standardized Instructor Pilot (CSIP) by
Cirrus Design, Master Certificated Flight Instructor (MCFI)
and Master Ground Instructor (MGI) by the National
Association of Flight Instructors (NAFI), 2007 FAA Central
Region Flight Instructor of the Year, and was awarded the
2006 National Air Transportation Association (NATA)
Excellence in Flight Training Excellence Award at their
national conference in March 2007.
